Hallux valgus (big toe deformity)

Quite slanted and really painful

Hallux valgus, also called a bunion, is a common deformity of the toes. In hallux valgus, a malposition of the big toe is seen, mostly with pressure complaints on the inner side of the joint, and partly also with a displacement of the 2nd toe. It results in a painful rolling movement of the foot while walking.

There are a variety of causes of hallux valgus. Bad footwear, unphysiological stress or genetic factors play a role. The course of the malposition is often progressive. Therefore, prompt treatment is advisable.

Conservative therapy:

  • Orthotic inserts
  • Orthotics (hallux valgus splint)
  • Strengthening of foot musculature
  • Kinesio taping
  • Injections (homeopathy)

If no improvement is seen after such therapy, a surgical correction may be required. Depending on the severity of the malposition, different surgical procedures are offered, which we will discuss and agreed on with you individually.
