Our Special Service for Golfers

Our special service for golfers – performance enhancement, diagnostics, treatments, surgery

Golf is a sport which is good for all ages, both for beginners and for professionals. It is a sport which is more diverse than you would think at first. You need physical strength, mobility, plus the ability to concentrate and to coordinate your movements. In general, you can say that it is a healthy outdoor sport.

As with any sport, there can be injuries or issues caused by too much strain on the musculoskeletal system. We offer you comprehensive support with our diagnostics and therapy for all kinds of issues related to golfing.

Should you have any issues, we can help you to become fit again fairly quickly.

Which physical problems are typical for golfers?

1) Wrists

Tendinitis, contusions causing painful restrictions of your mobility

2) Elbows

“golfer’s elbow” – inflammation of the tendon piece which connects the forearm with the elbow

3) Shoulders

Inflammation of the tendons and the bursa

4) Spine

Compressed muscles and an unfavourable swinging technique can cause problems along the spine.

5) Hip

The hip joint is often battered because of the relatively unnormal rotation movement. However, after a hip joint replacement, golf is a sport which can often be practiced without any issues.

6) Knees

The typical rotation movement puts a lot of strain even on a strong knee and can, therefore, lead to an overexertion of the knee structures.

7) Ankles and feet

Problems with the Achilles tendon or foot deformities can have a negative impact on the golf swing

Our diagnostics program for golfers

Integral 4D Motion Analysis

With the help of our motion analysis we can measure both the foot imprint, the leg axis and also the spine. This measurement will be done in a static and in a dynamic position. Due to the latest technology that we have, this can be done without any radiation exposure. With a projected light, we achieve a virtual print of the spine which shows us its curvature and the position of the pelvis. This helps us to diagnose bad postures and unfavourable body movements. The leg axis measurement will be done by using small silver pads that will be put on your skin. This doesn’t only show the axis of the knees but also of the feet. Together with the foot imprint analysed by sensors on the treadmill, we can put together a complete picture of the posture and movement patterns of the patient. This picture will form the basis for our integral analysis and therapy.

Measurement of the muscle power

By using the muscle function analysis, we measure the isometric maximum power of the various muscle groups in your legs, shoulders, arms, neck, and torso. We can draw a conclusion about the power of the muscles on the left side of the body vs. the right side of the body, by asking you to move your body in a different direction. We will also compare muscles complementing each other (agonist and antagonist). These comparisons help us find the reasons for bad postures and physical issues. The results can also be used as the basis for your training with the aim to strengthen the muscles after injuries, surgery or in case of other complaints.

Our therapy program for golfers

Setting up a training plan

Based on our analysis, we will set up a personal training plan together with you. Our aim will be to compensate lack of muscle power and restrictions affecting your mobility. This helps you to prevent too much strain or to reduce it substantially. Quite often, the movements when playing golf are very one-sided, so that a harmonizing training program is really important. The components power-mobility-coordination-stability will be integrated in the plan. You will be in a position to either carry out the training at home, or you can come to our practice to do it together with one of our sports training experts.

Course for Autogenic Training

We offer an 8-week-course for Autogenic Training. Autogenic Training was developed by the German doctor Prof. Dr. med. Johannes Heinrich Schultz in Berlin in the 1930s and has virtually not been changed since them. This relaxation method is easy to learn and is a way to achieve positive self-hypnosis. As a result, you’ll be able to relax when required, to enhance your performance and to improve your concentration. The fantastic news is that this method can easily be used everywhere and anytime, within minutes, in each posture, no matter where or when, i.e. also on the golf course.

Normally, you acquire the technique in group sessions, the reason being that you learn a lot from each other, especially at the beginning.

Lactate test / endurance performance diagnostics

Nowadays, a large part of the population suffers from the consequences of excess weight, high blood pressure and pulmonary diseases. Golf is a healthy outdoor sport to exercise the cardio-vascular system.

On the golf course, you easily walk a couple of kilometres, sometimes in a hilly area. This is very good for your health, but it also requires a good basic physical fitness to be able to play a concentrated round of golf. We offer you the possibility to measure your endurance performance. Afterwards, we set up a training plan together with you, not only for your cardio-vascular system but for your well-being in general.

Neuromuscular training with Huber®360

The Huber®360 Evolution allows us to set up a very personal plan because of its many sensors and its motorized platform using several axes. Based on the latest innovations, you will be able to improve your flexibility and mobility, your muscle power and endurance. You will also enhance your sense of balance and your posture.

The neuromuscular analysis tests your mobility, power, coordination, and movement patterns. With the results of the tests, our sports training experts can put together the perfect training schedule for you personally. Both the analysis and the training sessions will be electronically recorded so that your progress is documented and becomes visible for you.

Trigger point osteopathy

Muscle tensions cause pain and restrict our mobility. This, in turn, can lead to the overexertion of other tendons and muscles because we are not able to move the way we should. A muscle which is hard and tense is more susceptible to pain at the trigger points due to a certain amount of inflammation substances and lower blood supply. Trigger osteopathy aims at dissolving the tension by shock waves to bring about a better blood flow and a good metabolism in your muscles. This treatment usually happens weekly over a 4-5 week period. We often combine this method with other therapies.

Shock Wave Therapy

We use shock wave therapy mainly to treat issues like calcifications of the shoulder, inflammations, tennis, or golfer’s elbow, heel spurs/plantar fasciitis and problems with the Achilles tendon. These issues cause a painful inflammation of the tendons. As there is hardly any blood flow through our tendons, these problems can continue for a very long time. The shock wave therapy sends shock waves deep into the tendons, which improves the blood circulation in this area and the body can heal itself. The therapy usually happens weekly over a 3-5 week period. We often combine this method with other therapies.

ACP/PRP – Autohemotherapy

There is an excellent alternative to the traditional concepts of treating arthrosis and damage to muscles, sinews, and tendons. The so-called ACP/PRP method can alleviate pain caused by arthrosis and can accelerate the healing process of injuries to the musculoskeletal system. During the healing period of damaged tissue, there are a lot of individual processes that are interconnected. These individual processes are steered by the so-called growth signal substances, which are released by the platelets or thrombocytes. Thrombocytes are always available in the blood and are activated through an injury, for example. They release the growth substances to start the healing process and to foster it. So, if a person’s own blood is prepared in such a way to simulate about an injury, the effect of starting the healing process can be enhanced. There is evidence that the number of thrombocytes and the amount of growth substances will thereby increase significantly. Especially the positive impact on pain reduction and the healing process has been analysed intensively and has been confirmed.

Neural therapy / Acupuncture

Acupuncture and neural therapy have the same objective, i.e. to correct the imbalance of nerve irritations. Acupuncture has been known for 5,000 years, neural therapy has not even been around for 100 years. Nevertheless, both methods are successful when it comes to treating functional disorders. Local anaesthetics are injected in the affected region of the body to interrupt the irritation of the nerve. This way, the overloaded circle of irritation and recuperation has time to calm down and to regenerate itself. The diversion of the irritation can be diagnosed with manual examination techniques.

We use both forms for all types of issues with the musculoskeletal system. Since golfers spend a lot of time outdoors, we offer these therapies especially to those people who suffer from hay fever.

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a holistic medical approach. By using different techniques, tensions will be reduced and joints will have a wider range of motion again. All our joints, muscles, and fasciae are interconnected and are communicating with each other. Our nervous system, our sense of balance and our eyes optimize this system. Especially for golfers, the perfect communication of all these systems is very important for that perfect posture and a dynamic golf swing.

If there is any sort of blockade, we can bring balance back to these systems!

We will help you to keep going strong!

Surgery to treat musculoskeletal issues

A conservative therapy is not always sufficient.

Problems with the knees

The rotation movements in the knees often lead to meniscus tears. The meniscus is a crescent-shaped pad made of collagen. If there is a tear, you will feel a stabbing pain on the inside of your knee, sometimes also on the outside. Usually, these tears can be trimmed, also using a camera, during keyhole surgery. Occasionally, it is even possible to mend a torn meniscus.

Problems with the ankles

A so-called impingement can form if you frequently twisted your ankle in the past or if you suffered from torn ligaments several times. As a consequence, scars and soft tissues can become painfully entrapped in your ankle. Damage to the cartilage can also cause discomfort or pain. These conditions can be successfully treated, using a camera during keyhole surgery.

Problems with the feet

We usually treat injuries or straining of the tendons (peroneal tendon, Achilles tendon or plantar fascia) in a conservative way. However, if there is no relief or improvement, we will discuss various options with you, including surgery.

If there are minor foot deformities like hallux valgus (bunion), hallux rigidus (rigid big toe) or claw toes the roll over movement of the foot is impacted or they will cause pressure marks on your feet leading to severe pain and inflammation of the affected area. Should you have such problems, we are able to help you because we are very experienced foot surgeons and offer a comprehensive therapy concept.

All our operations are carried out in our interdisciplinary clinic RKM740 which has a state-of-the-art operating theatre and an exclusive ambiance where we work closely together with our anaesthetists.

We will be there for you at all times, from the preparation of the surgery until we reach the optimum result for you after the operation. Normally, it is necessary to spend 1 or 2 nights in our house. Afterwards, it should be possible for you to leave the clinic wearing a special shoe so that you’re able to walk. A light to moderate training should be possible after about 6 weeks.

Therapy with hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a part of our connective tissue and serves as a kind of lubricant in our joints. When the cartilage is damaged, there is a lack of hyaluronic acid. Fortunately, this substance can now be produced in a laboratory. We will inject this substance into the joints and tendons to enhance the regeneration process, to re-gain a smoother movement of all parts and to minimize the risk of inflammation.

Kinesiology taping

Most athletes are familiar with the colourful tapes and appreciate their positive effect. Our skin has numerous sensory cells which are stimulated by these tapes. Especially the knees and shoulder areas benefit from the tapes because they are fairly comfortable to wear.
